This week’s episode of Hell on Wheels was really good. This show might get my Most Improved player award for its rookie season. And high in the running for the Sixth Man Award. (Award I just made up for a show that’s not in your current top 5, but still puts up starter numbers from the bench.)
I found it noteworthy that the Swede got tarred and feathered by an angry mob. Awesome. That was the first time I think I’ve seen that on a tv show, or realistically depicted on film. Really good scene.
And you never really think about the aftermath of a tar and feathering. The moments afterward when a guy covered in scalding hot tar and feathers is booking it, half naked, down the street, a few steps in front of the angry, stick-wielding mob.
What a fucking nightmare.
I think Hell On Wheels just wanted to get there before Downton Abbey could. They probably have a tar and feathering lined up for Season 3. Except it will be very dramatic and sad and it will take twenty minutes to get two blocks.
